This policy explains what information GolfJournal ("the app") collects, how it is used, and the third-party services involved. GolfJournal is developed by KH Solution LLC.
Information We Collect
Account information
When you sign up, we collect your email address and a password to create and secure your account. Authentication is handled by our backend provider, Supabase.
Journal content
The text entries, photos, and videos you create in the app are stored so they can be shown back to you. Only you can access your own entries and media.
Voice dictation
If you use voice dictation, your device's speech-recognition service (for example, Google's on-device or cloud speech recognition) converts your speech to text. GolfJournal does not store the audio itself — only the resulting text becomes part of your journal entry, subject to that service's own privacy practices.
Location
GolfJournal can name the golf course you are at, so you do not have to type it when starting a round. This happens only when you tap Use my location: the app takes a single approximate location reading at that moment and sends those coordinates to OpenStreetMap to look up nearby golf course names.
The app never tracks your location in the background, and never while you are playing. Your coordinates are not stored by us — only the course name you choose is saved, as part of the round entry. You can decline the location permission and simply type the course name instead; nothing else in the app depends on it.
How We Use Your Information
- To create your account and let you sign in.
- To store and display your journal entries and attachments back to you.
- To generate AI features you ask for — a summary of recent entries, a suggested focus for a practice session, or the topics used to find videos. In each case the text of the relevant entries is sent to Anthropic's Claude API at the moment you request it. Your club distances are also included when generating a practice focus, so the advice can refer to your own yardages.
- To recommend instructional YouTube videos based on issues you mention — search terms derived from your entries (not full entry text) are sent to the YouTube Data API.
- To name the course you are playing, when you ask it to — see Location above.
Third-Party Services
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage for your account, entries, and media.
- Anthropic (Claude API) — processes entry text only when you request an AI summary, a practice focus, or video recommendations.
- Google YouTube Data API v3 — used to search for and recommend instructional videos.
- OpenStreetMap — receives approximate coordinates, only when you tap Use my location, to return the names of nearby golf courses. Requests are served by community-run OpenStreetMap query servers.
- Device speech-recognition service — used only when you use voice dictation.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising. There are no ad or analytics SDKs in the app.
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored in a Postgres database with row-level security, so only your account can access your own entries and media. Media (photos and videos) is stored in cloud storage tied to your account.
Data Retention & Deletion
You can edit or delete individual entries and attachments at any time within the app.
To delete your whole account, open Settings from the … menu on the Entries screen and tap Delete account. You will be asked for your password to confirm. This is immediate and permanent: it removes your account, every entry, all photos and videos, your clubs and distances, your practice plans, and any AI summaries, practice focus and video recommendations. None of it can be recovered.
If you have already uninstalled the app, email ken@khsolutions.biz from the address you signed up with and we will delete the account for you. Requests are actioned within 30 days. We retain nothing about you after deletion, other than any records we are required to keep by law.
Children's Privacy
GolfJournal is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
